Inspired by “Frog Collection” drawn by Edo-period ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, this piece portrays frogs with a human-like charm, depicted as samurai. Carrying swords and standing with dignity, yet showing slightly humorous expressions, they embody both bravery and playfulness. This combination reflects the satire and wit characteristic of Kuniyoshi’s works. It feels as if these “unusual warriors” living in Edo each carry their own stories.
